Kononov Y.S. was born on September 25, 1931, in the town of Karabanovo (Vladimir region). In 1954 graduated from metallurgical department of the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold (Moscow), with the qualification of engineer in metallurgy. In 1966 defended the thesis (candidate dissertation). Since 1976 works for ICCT, first in the position of senior researcher. Since 1986 was promoted to the position of leading researcher. The application prospects of anion exchangers with high basicity for the recovery of cyanide gold complexes and for their elution by basic solutions were studied. The leaching of gold from concentrates of Olympiadinsky, Sukhoy Log and Bakyrchik deposits was studied. Gold was effectively leached (after oxidation in nitrate of sulfate iron solutions) to the level of 0.03-4 g/ton, which is equal to 98.6-99.9% recovery in solution. Noteworthy, the chemical oxidation continues for 3 hours or less. The new production technology for manganese dioxide for chemical current sources was developed. The technology allows to synthesize mono-phase of gamma manganese dioxide. Ph.D. thesis “Ion Exchange Sorption of Platinum and Palladium” is devoted to sorption of complex chloride, platinum and palladium nitrite on anion exchangers with various basicity and various concentrations of hydrochloric acid, sodium nitrite in aqueous and aqua-organic solutions. It was shown that the separation of complex chlorides of platinum and palladium is possible at anion exchanger AB-17 with palladium elution by means of concentrated hydrochloric acid, and further elution of platinum by 2M chloric acid. Kononov Y. S. has 80 papers published, including 41 paper in Russian peer-reviewed journals and 9 papers in foreign academic journals.
